In 1983, Joe Lawless co-founded Shelter Supply, Inc., Products and Technology for Energy Efficient, Healthier Homes. Shelter
Supply introduced advanced techniques for improving the home's energy
efficiency, promoting the construction trades' movement/improvement
efforts toward - safe, sealed combustion systems and improved air quality by
distributing vanEE heat recovery ventilation systems to mechanical
contractors.
Shelter Supply grew into a national wholesale
distribution company in Lakeville, MN and represented energy efficient products and
equipment to the building trades, and provided an unprecedented training
and educational forum to builders, construction trades, building
officials, and utilities.
Shelter Supply's mandate was to incorporate
'building science' into new construction techniques that improved the
durability of the structure and the health of the occupants - by
training, education, and supplying the products and equipment. The State
of Minnesota adopted a new energy code in 1999 as a result of the
efforts of Shelter Supply, Inc.
After the sale of Shelter Supply to
Lake Country Power in January of 2000, Lawless provided transition to
new ownership and management until December of 2003. With a background
in business management (President/General Manager) and a knowledge and
passion for energy efficient, healthier homes (Building Science),
Lawless started Lawless Company Home Inspections, applying building
science knowledge and building standards that ensure a detailed,
proficient home inspection for new home buyers; and maintenance
inspections for existing homeowners.
